Sermon Overview

Imagine being trapped in a cave with no light at all. When the light is turned on, what sorts of things would be exposed? This was the role of John the Baptist: to expose people’s hearts by pointing them to the light of Christ Himself. Today’s passage is going to show us three markers of the messenger sent by God to witness about His Son.

  1. The Identity of the Witness (1:6)
    • Authority
    • Mission
    • Humility
  2. The Impetus of the Witness (1:7)
    • To Point to the Light
    • To Prepare the Way
    • To Proclaim Christ
  3. The Impact of the Witness (1:8)
