Sermon Overview
A lack of understanding regarding the biblical teaching of the church is one of the major problems that plagues the Church in America today. This leads to a whole host of unwise practices that diminish the spiritual health of a church. Toward the top of the list in poor ecclesiology is wrong views of church leadership. To ensure this doesn’t characterize our church, we are considering three actions a church must perform toward its elders that protect the church from error.
- Honor Those Who Have Been Proven Faithful (5:17-18)
- Discipline Those Who Have Been Proven Unfaithful (5:19-21)
- Apply the Right Criteria (vs. 19)
- Ensure the Right Outcome (vs. 20)
- Maintain the Eight Perspective (vs. 21)
- Test Those Who Have Not Been Proven (5:22-25)
- Appoint Slowly (vs. 22a)
- Obey Diligently (vs. 22b-23)
- Examine Thoroughly (vs. 24-25)
